Questions to Think About Before Enrolling Your child

As you consider enrolling your child in our piano lessons, there are a few questions to keep in mind.

  • Do you have an acoustic piano or a full-length electric keyboard with weighted keys? (A keyboard is full length if it has 88 keys total: 52 white and 36 black.)
  • Are you able to be involved in practicing with your child for 30 minutes each day?
  • Does your child have the attention span to focus on a lesson for 30 minutes or more?
  • Are you willing to invest in a quality instrument and ongoing lessons for your child?
  • Are you open to different teaching methods, such as the Suzuki Method?
  • Do you have a realistic expectation of progress, and are you willing to be patient as your child learns at their own pace?
  • Do you have a schedule that allows for regular lesson attendance and consistent practice time?

In-Person Piano Lessons

For children (Pre-K to 12th Grade)

  • Fun group classes and activities
  • Ear training and note-reading skills
  • Performance opportunities and recitals

Group Piano Lessons

Group piano lessons are a fantastic option for children who are looking to learn the piano while being motivated by their peers. KL Suzuki Piano Studio offers group classes that provide a fun and social environment for students to learn and grow. Parents are also encouraged to attend and exchange ideas with other parents, creating a supportive community for students. One unique aspect of the Suzuki method is that all students learn the same repertoire, which allows them to play together and review pieces as a group. In addition to learning how to play, students also learn music theory through games and activities, which adds new meaning to their piano lessons. By participating in group piano lessons, students can develop their skills, build friendships, and enhance their overall musical experience.

Student Expectations

Students are expected to practice daily for a length of time appropriate to their age and level. Thirty to sixty minutes of high-quality practice per day (less for beginners) is typically needed to make sufficient progress to encourage a student.

If a student misses a lesson, they can work with other student families to swap times. If you cannot arrange a swap, please contact the teacher to see if there are any cancellations for that week. If they cannot find a timeslot that works for both parties, the lesson is forfeited without tuition reimbursement. If the teacher is unable to attend a lesson, the teacher will reschedule.

Resource Library

Suzuki piano books are graduated sets of music, increasing in difficulty as the child increases in skill level. Volume 1 contains songs like “Lightly Row” and “London Bridge.” The books come with a listening CD so the child can hear the song played and reproduce what they hear. There are seven volumes in total.
