Frequently Asked Questions About Piano Lessons: Your Ultimate Guide

  • Are You Accepting New Students?

I am accepting new students, ages 3-18, starting as soon as early beginners.  Please get in touch with me for further discussion and information.

  • Do You Offer Lessons at Home or Go to Students’ Homes?

Currently, I am teaching out of my home in Alexander, NY.

  • How Much Is Tuition?

Tuition is paid every month minimum.  Please get in touch with me for details.

  • Can You Please Briefly Explain the Parent’s Role?

Parental involvement is vital. Parents reinforce concepts in the home environment and provide positive feedback for the child. The Suzuki method requires an equal amount of effort from the teacher, parent, and student.

Parents should try to attend all Suzuki lessons for young children, and the teacher may teach both the parent and child when the child is very young. Parents may even be expected to play during some lessons!

Parents will be expected to play the recorded music at home, and they should take notes during practice times to effectively communicate any difficulties and successes with the teacher.

  • How Many Minutes Long Would a Lesson Be?

The Suzuki Method encourages both individual and group lessons. Individual lessons are 30 minutes, and group lessons are 60 minutes.

  • How Do You Decide When to Introduce a Child to Reading Music?

Children learn to read after their ability to talk has been well established. In the same way, children develop basic technical competence on the piano before being taught to read music. Typically, I begin teaching children to read music once they have completed the first book.

  • Are You Planning to Have Recitals?

Yes, one Play-In midyear (around December) that consists of an informal gathering in the home for students to perform in front of their family and other students.  And there is a more formal recital at the end of the school year (around June) where students can perform on stage for friends and families with a reception to follow.
